How to Open RAR File on Mac With Ease

I prefer to use RAR (Roshal Archive Compressed file) file for a couple of main reasons like smooth sharing and high data transmission. Moreover, it features AES-128 encryption and has higher compression ratios as compared to the ZIP file format. Unfortunately, there is no straightforward way to open RAR file on Mac. So, how do you break the shackle?

Mac lacks the built-in support for RAR format as it’s proprietary. Thankfully, there are some third-party tools like Keka, Dr. Unarchiver, RAR Extractor Lite and The Unarchiver that let you extract RAR files with ease on your Mac.

How to Extract RAR Files on Mac

In this test, I’m going to use The Unarchiver because it makes the process dead simple. Besides, it’s available for free and has the support for several file formats including Zip, RAR (including v5), 7-zip, Tar, Gzip, and Bzip2.

Step #1. Download “The Unarchiver” app on your Mac.

Once you have downloaded the app, launch it.

Step #2. Now, you just right-click on a RAR file and select Open With → The Unarchiver.

The app will instantly extract the compressed files into that same folder.

Alternately, you can double-click on a RAR file to extract it.

That’s done!

Wrapping up:

So, that’s how you can take control of RAR files on your Mac. It would be great if Apple added the built-in support for this super handy archive file format to macOS sooner than later. Let us know your feedback down below in the comments.
