Best ways to save on electricity

  • Electricity is a fundamental part of today’s society and modern lifestyle dictates that we need electricity for all our electronics and whatnot. However, electricity can amount to quote a hefty sum each month in terms of bills, and that can really run you into the ground financially if you’re not careful. The most effective way to cut down on electricity bills would be to get solar panels.

What you invest in solar panel installation will return directly into your pocket in the long run. Luckily, there are many ways in which you can reduce electricity costs, just like how there are many ways in which you can bump that monthly bill up by spending resources recklessly. That being said, it’s time to take a closer look at what can be done about saving electricity.

    Kill the light

Lights are great for when you want to read a book or even simply see which way you’re going. However when a light burns in a room you’re not even in, it’s called a waste. Turn off lights you don’t use and see how your bill will decrease considerably over the course of a month. Alternatively, you can make more use of natural light, so instead of turning on the light in a room you could move to a spot where the window brings in natural light.

Turn off the water between smaller tasks

We all have our series of small tasks that we must get done in the bathroom. Here, we’re talking about washing our face and hands, shaving, brushing our teeth, etc. A really good way to save some money is by turning off the water between these chores and during them. It’s enough to run your toothbrush once under the water stream, you don’t need to actually keep the faucet running while you are brushing. This is a habit that most people are familiar with, you can save a little bit by learning to get rid of it.

    Unplug what you don’t use

Turning off something when you’re done using it simply won’t cut it. If you want to save money on electricity, you have to completely unplug them from the power supply when you’re not using them for a long period of time. If you only use a specific appliance only once per month, make sure that it doesn’t stay plugged in and bump your electric bill with idle electricity.

    Hang dry laundry

If you have a dryer you might think this is insanity, but hear us out. Hang drying your laundry is one of the most effective ways in which you could save on your electric bill. It’s something that is easy to do and consumes no electricity whatsoever. Sure, it might take longer before you can finally wear those shorts that have been sitting in the laundry basket for two weeks, but what’s another night without’em? Also, it all goes a lot smoother if you put your laundry on the balcony.
