iDope, one of the top 10 torrent search engines and the most-visited torrent site, has suddenly disappeared online, reports TorrentFreak. This is the first time that iDope has gone offline since its launch in 2016.
For those unaware, iDope is one of the top 10 search engines and is a site created in tribute of KickassTorrents (KAT) after it was forcefully shut down in 2016. iDope torrent search engine provides with direct magnet links to the content.
“This project was developed the next day after we knew KAT was taken down, it’s very very new, and we are a very small team, so you won’t find anything about it on the Internet, especially when we never promoted it decently,” said one of the site’s operators back in 2016.
“We only intended to make simple products that everyone can enjoy, we don’t make bucks out of it, and thus we promise no annoying pop-up ads.”
After iDope’s launch, the site started gaining significant popularity in the months and years that followed. The relatively new site also ended up featuring on the tenth position in TorrentFreak’s annual list of the world’s most-visited torrent sites in January 2018.
However, the site has been facing the problem since the past week. Not only the iDope.se domain from where iDope went offline but also the site’s Twitter and Facebook accounts have been inactive for some time.
iDope facing domain issues
While many of them were speculating technical issues or problems with the authorities as the reason for the outage, it turned out to be otherwise.
“There are some problems with our domain idope.se, We are communicating with the domain provider. We believe it can be restored within a few days,” TF was told when it contacted iDope.
While clones or maybe mirrors of iDope were running when the site was down, it was unclear if these were managed by the site itself. However, TorrentFreak has received information that suggests that at least two are official.
“Everyone can visit our website using idope.cc or idope.co,” iDope’s operator says.
Given that in the past, the site’s operators had claimed that the site would never go down, the current downtime faced by iDope seems a little ironic.
“[T]he server provider we chose will protect our servers even from hurricanes, earthquakes, nuclear bomb. Honestly [I don’t know] how they are capable of that, sounds pretty badass,” its operator previously said.
The present downtime seems to be just a hiccup and one can expect the site to be up and running soon. In the meanwhile, you can check out these 3 top alternatives for iDope.
